If you’re a photographer and would like to share some of your awesome pictures in a blog post, you probably want to showcase them in a nice gallery. Luckily, WordPress has this feature built-in, you just need to know how to use it.
In this article, we’re going to walk through the process of adding a WordPress built-in image gallery to your post. In this example, we’re using WordPress 3.5. This WordPress version is important to note here since things might work quite different for other versions of WordPress.
Uploading Images
In your post editor, click on the Add Media button. Then, click on Create Gallery tab and simply drag your images to the image uploader window.
On the right side on the panel, you’ll see some settings for the gallery. For example, you’ll be able to choose whether the image should be linked to attachment page or media URL, the number of column and the gallery type. Lastly, if you wish to show the images in random order, simply tick the Random Order option.
Once done, simply click the insert gallery button. Voila! This is an example of the image gallery you’ll get:
Showcase The Image on Lightbox
This is a bonus tip. If you wish to showcase each image in a nice lightbox (like Facebook), you can use jQuery Lightbox For Native Galleries plugin. However, this is not recommended as the developer has discontinued supporting the plugin and recommend using Jetpack Carousel module instead.
Therefore, the best option is to use the Carousel module in Jetpack plugin. Simply install the Jetpack plugin and activate the module. The Carousel module need no other configurations.
